It was an amazing offensive display in Griffith Stadium where the Washington
Nationals beat the New York-AL Yankees by the score of 11 to 10 in 10
inning.

The score was tied at 10 after nine.  Washington ended up winning it in the
10th inning.  Al Smith lashed a single.  After an out was recorded, Roy
Campanella came up and he drew a walk.  Ray Jablonski then singled giving
Washington the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  Washington
finished with 14 hits in the victory.  

Don Newcombe(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. The losing
pitcher was Jim Davis(0-1) in relief.
