Deacon Phillippe tossed a complete game at Robison Field as the Pittsburgh
Pirates came back dramatically to top the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of
3 to 2.

Pittsburgh came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning plating
2 runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Jimmy Sebring began the
rally when he reached on an error. Claude Ritchey stepped up next and he
tripled bringing in a run. Ed Phelps then banged out a single scoring the
final run of the inning. Despite losing, St. Louis out-hit Pittsburgh 9 to
6.

Phillippe(1-0) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Jack
Taylor(0-1) absorbed the loss. He allowed just 6 hits and no walks in 9
innings.

Pittsburgh's manager was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in
your last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got
out there? You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey,
that's what makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says,
'it's not over 'til its over.'
