WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Fred Clarke robbed Kid Elberfeld of a Homerun!

Hooks Wiltse went 9 strong innings as the Washington Nationals defeated the
Philadelphia-NL Phillies 1 to 0 at American League Park.

Wiltse(2-0) was tremendous on the mound for Washington. He didn't allow much,
just 6 hits and no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 1.00 to 0.50.
Philadelphia-NL threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Barney Pelty(0-1) was charged with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he
did not allow an earned run in his 7 innings of work.

Despite losing Mark McGonigle was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
