Tris Speaker went deep and had 2 RBI as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics pulled
out a win over the Washington Nationals by a score of 7 to 6 at Shibe
Park.

The game was decided in the 9th inning.  Ed Sweeney lined a single. After an
out was recorded, Armando Marsans came to the plate and ripped a base-knock.
Morrie Rath then lined a base-hit.  Speaker was up next and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases.  Fred Merkle came up to bat and singled
resulting in an exciting win for Philadelphia-AL and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Philadelphia-AL had a total of 10 hits
for the game.  

The win went to Sandy Burk(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 1 inning. Hooks
Wiltse(1-1) was given the loss in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving
up 4 hits and 1 walk.
