Jeff Heath had 2 base hits and Bob Feller delivered 9 solid innings as the
Washington Nationals defeated the Cleveland Indians in 13 innings 2 to 1 at
Cleveland Stadium.
Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings. Washington ended up
winning it in the 13th inning. Heath led off the inning for Washington when
he lined a single. Buddy Rosar next to the plate and he doubled knocking in
a run. Bob Chesnes then delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the
inning. Both teams finished the game with 8 hits.
The winning pitcher was Chesnes(2-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Chesnes
got relief help from Kirby Higbe who gained credit for his 1st save. Bob
