Jake Weimer didn't allow a hit until the 9th inning and catcher Fred Abbott
had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the New York-NL Giants really laid it on the Detroit
Tigers 12 to 0.
Abbott punished Detroit with his bat. He tripled bringing home two
baserunners in the 2nd inning, hit a single in the 3rd inning, laced a
one-base hit in the 5th inning and belted a three-run homer in the 8th
inning. New York-NL rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon.
Weimer(1-1) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. The
left-handed Weimer had his no-hit bid broken up by Fielder Jones who singled
with nobody out in the 9th inning. Mike O'Neill(0-1) ended up with the loss.
He was touched for 8 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
'Everything seemed to click today,' Abbott said 'if it could only be this easy
all the time!'
