Mordecai Brown had a complete game as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh
Pirates by the score of 4 to 3 at West Side Park.

Chicago went ahead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring a single
run on 2 hits.  Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable
to push the needed runs across.  

Brown(1-0) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Howie Camnitz(0-1)
was the losing pitcher.  'This was a tough loss,' said Fred Clarke, 'the kind
that sticks with you for awhile.'
