WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Arnold Hauser robbed Jimmy Archer of a base hit.
Bot 8th: Jimmy Archer blocked the plate, saving a run!

Third baseman Mike Mowrey collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI as the St.
Louis Cardinals bested the Chicago Cubs 12 to 8 at Robison Field.

Bill Steele(1-1) was solid if not spectacular. He went 6 and 2/3 innings
allowing 9 hits and 2 walks lowering his ERA from 5.19 to 3.52. Chicago was
not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory
eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win
ballgames.

King Cole(1-1) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 14 hits and 4
walks in 8 innings.
