Catcher Tommy Clarke had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Phil Douglas pitched a complete
game as the Cincinnati Reds man-handled the Pittsburgh Pirates - the final
score was 18 to 2.
Clarke made sure the Cincinnati fans enjoyed themselves. He ripped a base-hit
resulting in a run in the 1st inning, tripled scoring two baserunners in the
3rd inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 5th inning and hit a single in
the 7th inning. Cincinnati kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning when
they had 5 runs on 3 hits, the 3rd inning which saw them score 5 runs on 3
hits and the 5th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 4 hits. Cincinnati
rapped out 16 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Douglas(1-0) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Dazzy Vance(0-1) was the loser. He struggled with his control issuing 9
walks in 4 innings.
