Virgil Trucks carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning at Shibe Park where the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals by the score of 5 to 0. It was a good day for Philadelphia thanks to Vic Wertz. He lined a single in the 1st inning, ripped a one-base hit which brought home a run in the 5th inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 7th inning. Philadelphia banged out 11 hits on the afternoon. Trucks(2-0) was credited with the shutout. The right-handed Trucks lost his no-hit bid when Bobby Doerr singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Don Newcombe(1-2) was the losing pitcher. He got hammered, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. 'Trucks was the man today,' Mark McGonigle said. 'He had just about every pitch working.'
