In a close game the Chicago-NL Cubs got by the Washington Nationals in 10
innings by the score of 6 to 4.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings.  Finally, Chicago-NL
prevailed in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Pee Wee Reese
started the rally when he drew a walk.  Reese took off for second and slid in
with a stolen base.  One out later, Joe Ginsberg then drew a walk.  Solly
Hemus followed next and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.
Connie Ryan came up to bat and ripped a base-hit plating two runs.  Ryan took
second on the throw.  A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.

Jim Konstanty(1-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Tom
Ferrick got the save, his 2nd.  Ralph Branca(0-1) absorbed the loss in
relief.
