Ralph Kiner smacked 2 homeruns as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics topped the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 14 to 9 at Shibe Park.

Kiner had a great day at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every move.
He electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 1st inning,
doubled in the 5th inning, ripped a base-hit bringing in a run in the 6th
inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 7th inning. Despite scoring in 5
separate innings, Pittsburgh could not get the win.

Warren Hacker(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing
4 runs. Early Wynn(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave up
8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate today' Kiner said after
the game. 'Despite that, I'm happy with the results!
