Washington scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base hits. Johnny Temple led off and got things going when he tripled. Al Smith was the next batter, but he struck out. Harvey Kuenn then banged out a single plating a run. Adcock followed and he cracked a two-run shot. Washington finished with 13 hits in the victory. The win went to Don Larsen(1-0) who allowed 7 runs in 8 innings. Vern Law was credited with his 1st save. Ernie Johnson(0-1) was the loser in relief. Rob Hickok was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us this afternoon' SCORESHEET: 1954 Washington Nationals at 1954 Cincinnati Reds J.Temple-A1 A1:F/8 B1:W>b1 C1:G/63 D1:Si *9*:Tr A.Smith-A1 A2:F/7 B2:HBP>12 C2:G/63 D2:K E2:K H.Kuenn-A1 A3:G/63 B3:Si>2# *5*:G/43 D3:Si>13 E3:Si>3# 12 J.Adcock-A1 *2*:K B4:P/6 C4:G/63 D4:Si>3# E4:HR>1# 12 b# R.Boone-A1 A5:Si B5:F/8 C5:G/63 D5:F/9 E5:K V.Power-A1 A6:Force/ *4*:Si *6*:G/43 *8*:P/6 E6:F/9 46>1o b1 G.Bell-A1 A7:Si>12 B7:L/4 C7:K D7:G/43 J.Hegan-A1 A8:FO/5 B8:Si>12 C8:G/53 D8:Si D.Larsen-A1 *3*:P/3 B9:HR>2# *7*:K D9:F/9 V.Law-E7 1# b# N.Fox-A1 A1:W>b1 B1:Tr C1:Force/ D1:F/9 E1:L/4 36>1o b1 P.Reese-A1 A2:Sac/54 B2:K C2:SB>12 D2:Si E2:Do >12 G/63 T.Klusze-A1 A3:G/13 B3:W>b1 C3:Si>2# D3:L/3 E3:K T.Alston-D4 L.Doby-A1 A4:G/31 B4:G/31 C4:Si>12 *7*:Do *9*:F/9 G.McDoug-A1 *2*:G/63 *4*:F/8 C5:W>23 1 D5:K E5:G/13 G.Hatton-D9 2 b1 J.Rivera-A1 A6:Si B6:Si C6:W>3# 2 D6:K E6:G/3 J.Delsin-D9 3 12 b1 H.Bauer-A1 A7:P/6 B7:CS/24> C7:HR>3# D7:Si>2# 1o W>b1 2# 1# b# W.Westru-A1 A8:K B8:F/9 C8:L/6 D8:G/63 W.Hacker-A1 *3*:K *5*:Si *6*:G/3 *8*:G/3 P.Runnel-B9 M.McDerm-C9+
