TEAM RISP- Nationals: 4 for 9 Reds: 3 for 12

Joe Adcock slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Crosley Field as the Washington
Nationals came back dramatically to top the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 8
to 7.

Washington scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base
hits. Johnny Temple led off and got things going when he tripled. Al Smith
was the next batter, but he struck out. Harvey Kuenn then banged out a
single plating a run. Adcock followed and he cracked a two-run shot.
Washington finished with 13 hits in the victory.

The win went to Don Larsen(1-0) who allowed 7 runs in 8 innings. Vern Law was
credited with his 1st save. Ernie Johnson(0-1) was the loser in relief.

Rob Hickok was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
this afternoon'
