Catcher Mike Grady hit one over the fence at West Side Park as the Chicago-NL
Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds in 12 innings by the count of 3 to 2.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings.  Chicago-NL won it
in the 12th inning.  Dave Fultz drew a walk.  Jimmy Williams next to the
plate and he banged out a single, and an error was also committed.  Shad
Barry then was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Monte Cross followed
and he grounded into a double play.  Kip Selbach came up to bat and ripped a
single giving Chicago-NL the win as 6,086 happy fans joyfully celebrated.
Cincinnati was out-hit by Chicago-NL, 12 hits to 9.  

The winning pitcher was Norwood Gibson(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings.
Ed Siever(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 3
hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.
