At American League Park the Washington Nationals outscored the Detroit Tigers
7 to 4.

Washington came up with 4 runs in the 7th inning when they came up with 5 base
hits.  The big moment was provided by Larry Doyle who made the crowd happy
when he doubled scoring two baserunners.  George Chalmers pitched a perfect
ninth and was credited with his 1st save.  

The victory went to Bill Steele(1-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs. Red
Ames(0-2) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around by Washington,
allowing 12 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
