At Shibe Park, the Philadelphia faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Art Houtteman(2-0) finally bested his Washington
counterpart, Bob Feller(0-2), by the score of 2 to 1.

Philadelphia set the tone of the game in the first inning plating an isolated
run. Washington had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Houtteman got help from Tiny Bonham who earned his 3rd save. The loss was
charged to Feller. Gordy Renaud was reflective after the loss, 'We should
have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that
added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
