Joe Connolly had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Shibe Park where the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the Philadelphia-AL Athletics by the score of 4 to
2.

Pittsburgh brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 3rd inning when
they had 3 base hits.  They would hold up as the winning runs.  Pittsburgh
managed 10 hits in their victory.  

Hooks Dauss(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Carl Zamloch preserved the game for Dauss, recording his his
2nd save.  The losing pitcher was Joe Boehling(0-1).  He allowed 4 runs and 8
hits in 8 innings.  

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Steven Schell said after the game.  'Dauss did not have command
of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
