In the bottom of the 3rd inning Boston-AL went on top for good plating 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After two were out Ted Williams started the rally when he laced a one-base hit. Wally Westlake next to the plate and he drew a walk. Al Zarilla then tripled driving home two runs. Joe Gordon came up and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The winning pitcher was Max Lanier(1-1) who allowed 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Billy Pierce(0-1) took the loss. His biggest problem was control as he allowed 8 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
