John Clarkson allowed Frank Selee to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Boston Beaneaters defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 5
to 3 at Baseball Grounds.

Boston jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 2
runs on 2 hits.  Boston managed 7 hits in their victory.  

Clarkson(1-1) allowed 3 runs on the game. Tim Keefe(1-1) absorbed the loss.
He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 9 innings.  'I struggled a bit out there
today,' Clarkson said, 'but I toughed it out and we got the win.'
