WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Pee Wee Reese robbed Willie Jones of a base hit.

Center fielder Larry Doby knocked 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Crosley Field as
the Cincinnati Reds beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 5 to 4.

Doby punished Cleveland with his bat. He clubbed a solo home run in the 4th
inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and ripped a solo home run
in the 8th inning. Cleveland had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The win went to Jim McDonald(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Ernie Johnson preserved the game for McDonald, recording his his 4th save.
Morrie Martin(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.

'The ball was jumping off my bat' Doby said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
