Henry Porter allowed Charlie Byrne to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and Bill Phillips had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Jefferson St Grounds as the
Brooklyn Grays beat the Philadelphia Athletics 17 to 8.

Brooklyn promptly took the lead in their half of the first as they scored 2
runs on 4 base hits.  Brooklyn lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning which
saw them plate 5 runs on 6 hits.  The Brooklyn offense man-handled the
Philadelphia pitching staff as they scored in 8 of the 9 innings.

Porter(1-0) lasted until the end allowing 8 runs for the win. Sam Weaver(0-1)
was the losing pitcher.  He was not very effective, surrendering 12 runs in 6
innings.
