Tris Speaker had 3 base hits and Ed Karger held Washington to 5 hits at
Huntington Ave Grnds as the Boston Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals in
13 innings 2 to 1.

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Boston won it in the
13th inning. After an out was recorded, Harry Lord laced a base-hit. Lord
swiped second base. Speaker then laced a single resulting in an exciting win
for Boston and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Boston
managed 9 hits in their victory.

The win was credited to Karger(1-0) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Dixie Walker(0-2) was given the loss. He pitched 12 and 1/3 innings giving
up only 9 hits and 1 walk.

Boston's manager was very impressed with his pitcher, Karger, 'He had
unusually good pitch placement this afternoon. It was almost unfair - but a
beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
