Second baseman Johnny Evers had 4 hits and scored 3 times at Baker Bowl where
the Boston Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings 12 to 9.
The score was tied at 9 after nine. Boston won the hard fought contest in the
11th inning. Evers led off the inning for Boston when he drew a walk. Evers
took his lead and swiped second. Elmer Jacobs then bounced one in the dirt
for a wild pitch. Joe Connolly stepped in and he banged out a single which
scored a run. After an out was recorded, Butch Schmidt came up and he drew a
walk. Larry Gilbert joined his teammates in the uprising and doubled scoring
another run. Jack Martin stepped up to the plate and he would hit into a
fielders choice scoring the final run of the inning. Boston had 15 hits for
the afternoon while Philadelphia had 8.
The win was credited to Paul Strand(1-0) who went 4 innings allowing 5 runs.
Jacobs(0-1) was the loser in relief. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 5 runs in 3 innings.
