WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Bobby Doerr robbed Andy Pafko of a base hit.

Right fielder Elmer Valo hit for the cycle and scored 4 times at Griffith
Stadium where the Cleveland Indians beat the Washington Nationals by the
score of 8 to 6.

Valo was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at
their team's expense. He tripled in the 1st inning, blasted a solo shot in
the 3rd inning, lined a base-hit in the 5th inning and doubled in the 6th
inning. Cleveland rapped out 10 hits for the night.

The win was credited to Dave Koslo(1-0) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 5
runs. Fred Martin earned the save, his 1st. Don Newcombe(1-1) was given the
loss. He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 5 and 1/3 innings of work.
