Ellis Kinder had an impressive outing as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 2 to 0 at Forbes Field.

In the 5th inning Pittsburgh went on top for good scoring a single run
utilizing 3 base hits.  Red Schoendienst banged out a single.  Yogi Berra got
his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  Pat Seerey
then hit a single.  Mickey Vernon stepped in and he slapped a one-base hit
scoring the run.  St. Louis could do no damage in the 9th.  

The win went to Kinder(1-2) who allowed no runs in 6 innings. Kinder got help
from Ewell Blackwell who earned his 1st save.  Larry Jansen(2-3) suffered the
loss.  He allowed 14 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 1/3 innings.  

'It felt really nice to get this win,' Kinder said. 'I kind of dictated the
game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
