The Cleveland Indians bested the Washington Nationals by a 8 to 5 score at
Griffith Stadium.

Cleveland promptly took the lead in their half of the first with 2 runs on 2
hits.  Elmer Valo led off and got things going when he lined a base-hit.  Bob
Feller then let loose a wild pitch.  Eddie Stanky then ripped a one-base hit
which scored a run.  Eddie Joost came up and he reached on an error.  Tommy
Henrich came up to bat and grounded into a double play.  Andy Pafko extended
the rally and reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning.  Howie
Pollet(1-0) got help from Fred Martin who pitched a perfect ninth and was
credited with his 2nd save.  

Feller(0-1) suffered the loss.  He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 4 walks
in 7 innings.
