Joe Tinker collected 2 extra-base hits as the Chicago Cubs defeated the
Cincinnati Reds in 13 innings 4 to 3 at West Side Park.
The score was tied at 3 after nine. Finally, Chicago prevailed in the 13th
inning. Tinker doubled. Two outs later Jimmy Slagle came to bat and drew a
walk. Solly Hofman then drew a walk to load the bases. Frank Schulte
stepped in and he delivered a one-base hit resulting in an exciting win for
Chicago and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Cincinnati
was out-hit by Chicago, 12 hits to 8.
Carl Lundgren(1-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Bob
Spade(1-1) was given the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 5 hits in
4 and 2/3 innings.
