Baseballs were flying all over the ballpark as the Pittsburgh Pirates ran
roughshod over the seemingly hapless Cincinnati Reds. The Pittsburgh offense
rolled up a total of 12 runs!.

Red Schoendienst provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 1st inning,
laced a single in the 5th inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand
Slam in the 8th inning. Overall Pittsburgh out-hit Cincinnati 17 to 10.

The winning pitcher was Bob Friend(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Jim
Bunning(1-2) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 9 innings of work.
