Left fielder Patsy Dougherty had 4 hits and scored 3 times at Polo Grounds as
the New York-NL Giants beat the Washington Nationals in 10 innings 6 to
5.

The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings.  New York-NL was victorious in
the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Hans Lobert drew a walk.  One
out later, Dougherty came to bat and doubled resulting in a mighty exciting
win for New York-NL and the 15,724 home town fans in attendance.  Despite
losing, Washington out-hit New York-NL 16 to 12.  

The winning pitcher was Irv Higginbotham(2-0) who allowed no runs in 2
innings. Smoky Joe Wood(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of
an inning allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
