Steve Evans had 2 base hits as the St. Louis Cardinals topped the slumping
Cincinnati Reds by a score of 9 to 6 at Palace Of The Fans.

St. Louis drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they tallied 3 runs on 3 hits.  St. Louis rapped out 12 hits for the
afternoon.  

Elmer Rieger(1-0) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 6 innings. Rieger was
helped out by Bill O'Hara who recorded his 1st save.  Wingo Anderson(0-2) was
given the loss.  His biggest problem was control as he allowed 8 walks in 5
and 2/3 innings.
