Bill James dominated striking out 11 Brooklyn batters at South End Grounds
where the Boston Braves beat the Brooklyn Superbas 4 to 1.

James(1-0) was very good in the win.  He allowed only 7 hits and 4 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.50 to 1.80.  Boston had 10 hits for the
afternoon.  

Frank Allen(1-1) took the loss.  He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks
in 7 innings.  James was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of
fun out there.  The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates.  We
got the victory and I'll sure take 11 strikeouts anytime!'
