Bobby Thomson left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated
the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 9 to 4 at Forbes Field.

Cincinnati was unable to claim the lead after Pittsburgh went ahead in the 5th
inning when they tallied 3 runs on 3 hits.  The key offensive moment was
provided by Thomson who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he lifted
one out of the park for a two run home run.  Pittsburgh banged out 12 hits on
the night.  

Ellis Kinder(1-0) allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Dutch Leonard(0-1) ended up with the loss.  He pitched 6 innings and
surrendered 7 hits and no walks.
