In an entertaining game at Swampoodle Grounds the final score was the Boston
Beaneaters 8, the Washington Nationals 5.

Boston had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 2 hits.  Dick
Johnston led off the inning for Boston when he laced a base-hit.  Tom Brown
came to the plate and singled.  After an out was recorded, King Kelly then
drew a walk to load the bases.  Sam Wise was up next and he hit a sacrifice
fly which scored a run.  Kelly swiped second base.  Ezra Sutton joined his
teammates in the uprising and reached on an error plating two more runners.
Boston banged out 8 hits on the afternoon.  

The win was credited to John Clarkson(2-1) who went 8 innings allowing 5 runs.
Clarkson was helped out by Kid Madden who recorded his 1st save.  Hank
O'Day(1-2) was charged with the loss.
