One run was the difference at American League Park as the Washington Nationals
registered 4 runs in the 6th inning and defeated the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics 9 to 8.

Gene Krapp(1-0) got the win with a steady relief outing. He allowed 5 hits and
2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Philadelphia-AL made it exciting in the 9th,
but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

King Cole(0-1) was hit with the loss. He was unable to control the Washington
offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Andy Spector 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
