Third baseman Red Smith smashed 2 homeruns and Ed Reulbach tossed a complete
game at South End Grounds as the Brooklyn Robins, running on all cylinders,
ripped the Boston Braves by a large 18 to 3 margin.
Smith was really in 'the zone'. He launched a rocket-shot out of the park for
a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning, stroked a single in the 3rd inning,
smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 4th inning, delivered a base-hit which
scored a run in the 5th inning and ripped a one-base hit in the 7th inning.
Brooklyn bats were very productive in the 1st inning scoring 5 runs and the
5th inning with 9 runs on 8 hits. Brooklyn had 18 hits for the afternoon.
Reulbach(3-0), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Dick
Crutcher(0-1) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 18 hits and 7 walks in 6
innings.
