Joe Dimaggio blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 11 to 5 at Crosley
Field.

Washington wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
tallied 4 runs on 3 hits.  The big moment was provided by Dimaggio who helped
quiet the crowd when he clubbed a three-run home run.  Washington finished
with 15 hits while Cincinnati ended up with 11.  

The victory went to Don Newcombe(1-0) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5
runs. Johnny Sain(0-1) was the loser.  Washington knocked him around a bit,
as he gave up 7 runs in 6 innings.
