Catcher Joe Garagiola blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Warren Spahn
allowed Gordy Renaud to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Griffith
Stadium as the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia-NL Phillies in 10
innings by the count of 6 to 5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Washington won it
in the 10th inning.  Garagiola ripped a solo home run making Washington
victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.  Philadelphia-NL had 12
hits in the game while Washington had 6, but Washington had the more timely
hits.  

Spahn(2-4) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. Monty Kennedy(2-2)
suffered the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 1 hit without retiring a
batter.
