The Chicago-NL Cubs easily topped the Washington Nationals; the final score
was 13 to 6.

Duke Snider was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He doubled which brought home
a run in the 3rd inning, stroked a single bringing in two baserunners in the
4th inning and delivered a one-base hit which was good for two runs in the
6th inning. For the game Chicago-NL out-hit Washington 16 to 13.

The win went to Sal Maglie(1-1) who allowed 6 runs in 6 innings. Tom Gorman
gained credit for his 1st save. Bob Porterfield(0-1) was the loser. He got
hammered, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
