Jack Coombs had an impressive outing as the Washington Nationals defeated the
Cincinnati Reds 11 to 2 at Redland Field.

Washington scored 5 runs in the decisive 2nd inning when they came up with 5
base hits. That was all Coombs(2-0) needed. Washington had 16 hits for the
afternoon.

Howie Camnitz(2-1) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 8 runs in 2 and 2/3
innings and saw his ERA increase from 1.00 to 3.48.

Rob Hickok was obviously impressed with the pitching of Coombs, 'That guy made
us look a little silly out there this afternoon. We just couldn't get to him
at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that kinda
performance out of his system.'
