Larry Jansen went 7 strong innings as the St. Louis Cardinals outscored the
Washington Nationals 1 to 0.

The game was won by St. Louis when they scored a run in the 8th inning.
Ferris Fain banged out a single.  After an out was recorded, Pee Wee Reese
stepped in and he ripped a single scoring the run.  St. Louis finished with 7
hits while Washington ended up with 4.  

The victory was credited to Bobby Hogue(2-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Hogue got help from Tom Ferrick who was credited with his 3rd save.
Don Newcombe(1-3) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings.  

Wth the win St. Louis now has a record of 8-7.  With this loss, Washington has
a 3-7 record of late, 4-8, worst in the league overall.
