The difference in the game was the offensive outburst by Boston in the top of the 9th inning as they showed no mercy on Washington blasting them for 9 hits and plating 9 runs. The biggest moment was provided by Collins who disappointed the partisan crowd when he belted a three-run homer. Boston bats were very productive in the 9th inning which saw them plate 9 runs on 9 hits. Boston finished with 20 hits in the victory. Bill Dinneen(2-0) allowed 7 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Al Orth(0-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed Boston 13 runs in 9 innings of work. After the game, it took a long while before Tom Loftus emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the Boston locker room.'
