Christy Mathewson had a complete game and George Browne had 2 base hits at
Polo Grounds as the New York Giants won a thriller over the Boston Beaneaters
in, 4 to 3.
The game was won by New York when they scored a run in the bottom of the 9th
inning. Jack Warner reached on an error. Roger Bresnahan came next and he
doubled making New York victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
New York had just 6 hits for the afternoon.
Mathewson(2-0) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. The loss was
charged to John Malarkey(0-2). He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow
an earned run in his 8 innings of work.
