Bob Feller allowed Gordy Renaud to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals pulled off a dramatic
comeback beating the New York Yankees by the count of 5 to 4.

Washington scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing
3 base hits. Ray Boone started the inning off right when he tripled. Dom
Dimaggio stepped up to the plate and he delivered a base-hit knocking in a
run. Willard Marshall then delivered a one-base hit. Bobby Doerr followed
and he drew a walk to load the bases. After an out was recorded, Bud Stewart
came to the plate and drew a walk giving Washington the win much to the
delight of the home town crowd. Washington and New York each finished the
night with 8 hits.

Feller(2-2) finished the game allowing 4 runs in the victory. Joe Coleman(2-1)
absorbed the loss. Feller and Marshall were really whooping it up in the
clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As Gordy Renaud noted,
'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares
in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning
by a dozen runs!'
