In a thriling finish the Boston Red Sox pulled off the win over the Pittsburgh
Pirates by a score of 9 to 7 at Fenway Park.

Boston had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs.  Lou Boudreau led
off and he reached on an error.  Ted Williams came to the plate and smashed a
two-run homer making Boston the victors to the delight of the home town
faithful.  Boston won despite being out-hit by Pittsburgh 17 hits to 11.

The victory went to Nels Potter(1-1) who went 1 inning, allowing 4 runs. Ewell
Blackwell(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 hits and 2
walks in 1 inning.
