Al Rosen launched 2 homeruns as the Philadelphia-NL Phillies topped the
Chicago-NL Cubs in 12 innings by a score of 8 to 5 at Wrigley Field.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Philadelphia-NL ended up
winning it in the 12th inning. The key at-bat was by Rosen who silenced
Wrigley Field as he depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam
home run. Philadelphia-NL had 17 hits overall, while Chicago-NL had 10.
Bud Podbielan(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Tom Ferrick(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.
'Everything seemed to click tonight,' Rosen said 'if it could only be this
easy all the time!'
