Mickey Mantle rocketed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Gerry Staley tossed a
complete game at Wrigley Field where the New York-AL Yankees beat the
Chicago-NL Cubs 8 to 3.

Mantle was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He launched a three-run homer in the 1st inning and
cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 5th inning. New York-AL
finished with 14 hits in the victory.

The victory was credited to Staley(1-0) who went the distance, allowing 3
runs. Sal Maglie(0-2) was the losing pitcher. By surrending 7 runs in 7
innings his ERA jumped from 1.84 to 4.15.
