In an entertaining game at Yankee Stadium the final score was the Pittsburgh
Pirates 12, the New York-AL Yankees 9.
Ray Murray enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He banged out a single in the
2nd inning, doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning and lofted
a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 9th inning. Despite scoring in 6 separate
innings, New York-AL could not get the win.
Ned Garver(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 6
runs. The losing pitcher was Gerry Staley(0-2). Pittsburgh knocked him
around a bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 6 innings.
