Gil Hodges had 2 base hits as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics bested the
Washington Nationals in 11 innings 4 to 3 at Connie Mack Stadium.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Finally, Philadelphia-AL
prevailed in the 11th inning.  Hank Sauer lashed a single.  Hank Thompson
followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Johnny Logan then
stroked a base-hit giving Philadelphia-AL the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd.  For the game Philadelphia-AL out-hit Washington 11 to 8.

Tom Poholsky(3-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Vern Law(0-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 2 hits and no walks.
