TEAM RISP- Spiders: 23 for 38 Colonels: 4 for 12

Left fielder Jesse Burkett had 6 hits and 6 RBI as the Cleveland Spiders
ballclub embarrassed the Louisville Colonels by the count of 35 to
6.

Burkett was in a groove all day. The Louisville fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He stroked a one-base hit in the 1st inning,
popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 3rd inning, tripled plating
three runs in the 4th inning, slapped a single in the 8th inning, lined a
base-hit which brought home a run in the 9th inning and lashed a base-hit in
the 9th inning. Cleveland lit up the scoreboard in the 4th inning which saw
them plate 8 runs on 6 hits and the 9th inning when they had 9 runs on 10
hits. The Cleveland offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The win went to Bobby Wallace(2-1) who allowed 6 runs in 8 innings. Pat
Luby(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 29 hits
and 7 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Burkett said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and
not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by
game, and pitch by pitch.'
