Christy Mathewson threw a 2 hit shutout at Palace Of The Fans as the
Cincinnati Reds beat the New York-AL Highlanders 5 to 0.

Mathewson(2-1) was tremendous on the mound for Cincinnati.  He surrendered
only 2 hits and no walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.25 to 1.44.
Cincinnati banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.  

Red Donahue(1-1) suffered the loss.  He surrendered 5 runs and 13 hits in 7
innings.  'Mathewson was the man today,' Doug Hatch said.  'He had just about
every pitch working.'
